July Foodie Penpal!
Hello Everyone!
Yes, it's been a while! I'm really sorry. I've been a busy bee lately and haven't had a lot of time to sit and write something half decent. Life is good! I've been getting out and about and getting more than my fair share of socializing!
A couple weekends ago, I ran 2 races in one weekend! They were both awesome. I ran another trail race and also ran Mud Hero! I would VERY strongly recommend them both! It was awesome! And they both kicked road running's butt anyday! I haven't been running all that much and didn't sleep much before the Mud Hero race but all and all - very happy with how everything went.
So, now down to biz-nass! FOODIE PENPAL time! What!? You jerks still haven't signed up? Have I taught you nothing!? Get on it, this is all you have to do:
-On the 5th of the month, you will receive your penpal pairing via email. It will be your responsibility to contact your penpal and get their mailing address and any other information you might need like allergies or dietary restrictions.
-You will have until the 15th of the month to put your box of goodies in the mail. On the last day of the month, you will post about the goodies you received from your penpal!
-The boxes are to be filled with fun foodie things, local food items or even homemade treats! The spending limit is $15. The box must also include something written. This can be anything from a note explaining what’s in the box, to a fun recipe…use your imagination!
-You are responsible for figuring out the best way to ship your items depending on their size and how fragile they are. (Don’t forget about flat rate boxes!)
-Foodie Penpals is open to blog readers as well as bloggers. If you’re a reader and you get paired with a blogger, you can choose to write a short guest post for your penpal to post on their blog about what you received. If two readers are paired together, neither needs to worry about writing a post for that month.
- Foodie Penpals is open to US, Canadian residents & UK residents. Please note, Canadian Residents will be paired with other Canadians only. We’ve determined things might get too slow and backed up if we’re trying to send foods through customs across the border from US to Canada and vice versa. So, I’m going to keep two separate lists and match US w/ US and Canada w/ Canada!
This month, I sent a package off to a nice girl living in Quebec named Thea! In return, I got an AWESOME package from Tarrah! You can check out her blog over here. She sent me the following:
Black Bean Tortilla chips - awesome with salsa and even hummus
Cocoa Savi Seeds - I have yet to try
Elevate Me Protein Bar - also haven't tried it yet
Raw Vegetable Crackers - which I polished off with some hummus and veggies
SO GOOD! Thank you Tarrah!! :)
On a slightly more serious note - I was out hiking with one of my fav people, Snolin (whoomgmightgettobemyroommate) yesterday. It was an incredibly beautiful day and the views were wicked! Poor Stephanie got dragged along on a hike that she wasn't expecting. I didn't remember the grade on the mountain being so high but regardless, she did AWESOME. Anyway, there was a climbing accident really, really close to us. Had we hiked a few hundred meters further, we likely would have witnessed it. We were so close that we actually ran into the guy who called it in and watched the helicopters circle to drop the Rescue Team in. It really shook us both up and we turned around to leave early. We found out after we got home that 2 climbers died in that accident. It's heart wrenching. Now, what is the point of sharing this sad story? I go out often. I sometimes go with a group and I've even been known to go alone. I go out with a "head down, ass up" sort of mentality and to be honest, don't think a lot about what I'm doing. I take for granted that I can just hike around a mountain and sometimes fail to remember that what we are doing is in fact, really f*&$ing dangerous. It put into perspective that I need to be more careful and more cautious - that I really need to be keeping my wits about me. Accidents can happen very quickly to even the most experienced people! My thoughts are with the guy who had to witness the tragedy and my thoughts are with the families of those who are going to be dealing with the aftermath of this tragedy for a long time! Please everyone - BE CAREFUL! xo
